Cookies can involve personal data. Where they do, the processing is also covered by our Privacy Policy, which sets out what we do with personal data, who we share it with and what rights you have over it. Read the two together.

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you come back, the browser sends the file to the website again, so the site can recognise the same browser and remember something about the visit.

Cookies are distinguished by how long they last:

• Session cookies last only as long as your visit. They are deleted when you close the browser.
• Persistent cookies stay on the device after the browser is closed, for a set period or until you delete them, so the site can recognise the browser on a later visit.

They are also distinguished by who sets them. First-party cookies are set by this website. Third-party cookies are set by another service used on the website — on this site, that means our analytics provider, described in section 5.

Some technologies that are not strictly cookies, such as browser storage and small measurement files, work in a similar way. Where we use any of them, we treat them under this policy and ask for consent on the same terms.

We use cookies for a small number of purposes:

• To make the website work. Some cookies are needed to deliver pages, to keep the site secure and to make it display correctly across different devices and browsers.
• To remember your cookie choice. When you accept or refuse non-essential cookies, that decision is itself stored in a cookie, so you are not asked again on every page.
• To understand how the website is used. With your consent, we collect statistics about how visitors reach and use the site, so we can improve it. This is described in section 5.

We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell information collected through them.

Cookies on this website fall into four categories. Only the first is set without asking you.

Strictly necessary cookies

These are required for the website to function. They deliver pages, keep the site secure and remember the cookie choice you have made. Without them the site cannot be provided, so where the law permits they operate without consent. They cannot be switched off through the cookie settings, although you can still block or delete them in your browser — see section 8.

Functional and preference cookies

These remember a choice you have made, such as the language you are reading the site in, so it does not have to be made again. They are not required for the site to work, so they are set only if you allow them.

Analytics cookies

These tell us how the website is used: which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and where something is not working. We use Google Analytics for this, described in section 5. Analytics cookies are optional. They are set only after you allow them, and refusing them does not affect anything you can read or do on the site.

Marketing cookies

Marketing cookies follow visitors in order to target advertising. This website does not currently use any. No advertising, remarketing or social media tracking cookie is set. If that ever changes, this policy and the cookie settings will be updated before it does, and such cookies would be set only with your consent.

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how visitors interact with this website.

It tells us things like which pages are read and for how long, how visitors found the site, which country a visit came from, and whether anything is failing on a particular browser or screen size. We use that to improve the usability, the content and the performance of the site.

We look at this as patterns across visitors, not as a record of any one person. We do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine what it reports with the contents of an enquiry you send us.

Google Analytics cookies are optional. They are set only after you have allowed analytics cookies through the cookie settings. If you refuse them, or make no choice, they are not set and no analytics data is collected from your visit.

Google acts as our service provider for this, and the information it collects on our behalf is handled under its own terms. How we handle personal data generally, including information collected through analytics, is set out in our Privacy Policy.

When you first visit this website you are asked whether to allow cookies that are not strictly necessary. You can accept them, or refuse them, and refusing is as straightforward as accepting. Nothing on the site is withheld if you refuse.

Browsing the website is not by itself consent. Analytics and other optional cookies are activated only once you have made that choice.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through Cookie settings, which is available from every page. Withdrawing consent stops the optional cookies being set from that point on; cookies already on your device can be removed in your browser, as described in section 8.

Your choice is remembered in a strictly necessary cookie. If you clear your browser’s cookies, that record goes with them and you will be asked again on your next visit.

The table below lists the cookies used on this website, what each one is for and how long it lasts.

Final cookie names and retention periods will be added after the production Google Analytics and consent configuration is completed.

Besides the cookie settings on this website, your browser gives you control over cookies from every site you visit. You can see which cookies are stored, delete them, block them for particular sites, or block them all.
