Overview

A relocation is usually a sequence, not a single application: the right route first, then the permit, then the family, then what comes after.

We advise founders, investors, employees and their families on moving to Latvia: which residence route fits the facts, what the application has to show, and how the permit is maintained and renewed once it is held.

We also act for the employer. Hiring someone from outside the European Union brings its own obligations, and they sit with the company rather than with the person arriving.

What we advise on

Choosing the route, preparing the application and the supporting file, and dealing with the authority through to the decision - then the renewals, changes of circumstance and conditions that follow.

Applications for highly qualified employment, including the qualification and contract evidence the route requires, and the position of a holder who changes employer or moves between Member States.

The residence routes tied to investment or to founding a business: what has to be committed and shown, what the holder must keep doing afterwards, and how the route interacts with the company's own obligations.

Bringing a spouse, children and other dependants, the evidence each relationship needs, and the rights a dependant has in their own name once the permit is issued.

The move from a renewable permit to long-term resident status, the continuity and integration conditions attached to it, and the questions that arise about citizenship later on.

What the employing company must do rather than the individual: the pre-hire checks, the terms the role has to meet, the notifications owed to the authorities, and the records kept for inspection.

EU Blue Card terms

  1. EU Blue Card

    A residence permit bearing that term, which entitles its holder to reside and work in the territory of a Member State under the terms of the Directive.

  2. Highly qualified employment

    Employment of a person who is protected as an employee under national law, is paid for the work, and has the required higher professional qualifications.

  3. Higher professional qualifications

    Qualifications attested by evidence of higher education qualifications or of higher professional skills.
